LO1: Business Report - Sumo Digital

The company is based in Sheffield. It was founded in 2003. The headquarters for the company is in Sheffield, United Kingdom. Sumo Digital has over 170 employees, and has worked with companies in japan such as SEGA. Sumo digital have worked on games such as sonic and all stars racing transformed and little big planet 2.

The development software that Sumo Digital use is, Art – 3D studio macs for modelling, Mia and Zedd Brush. CTT for coding and programmers.

Sumo digital produces games for different platforms, the different platforms that sumo provides for are, Xbox, PSP, PS2, Windows, PS3, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, Nintendo WII and Mac OS. Sumo digital develops games that have a selection of input factors in their games, for example a console controller like Xbox controller or ps3 controller, which include such features as joysticks, buttons, etc. The company develops games on different platforms which means the inputs are different depending on the console for example the game Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing can be played on many different platforms and consoles such at Nintendo WII and DS or Xbox 360. This means that it has different inputs for example touchscreen, motion sensors and a controller. There are also different outputs to the game, which can be effected depending on the platform for example, vibration, sound and image.

Sumo Digital focus on 3 main types of games, Fitness, Sport and Racing Games. Examples of the some popular games that Sumo has developed which fit into these categories are, Sonic & All stars Racing, Sonic & All stars Racing Transformed, Virtua Tennis 3 and Nike+ Kinect Training. I think that Sumo Digital are trying to target a certain audience, they are focused on fun sporty activities in their games such as sports and racing. The games that Sumo develop cover a large age range in the audience because the sonic may appeal to the children but the keep fit games might appeal to adults that might want to loose weight.

Most of the games that sumo develop are multi platforms games, this means that the game can be played on more than one plat form, for example Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing can be played on Nintendo DS and play station 3, I think that Sumo does this to cover a wider target audience and also can provide games for people with a different income for example ABC1s can afford to play a game on a PS3 or a Xbox but people of a lower income can only afford a Nintendo DS, so if it is a multi platform game then it can be accessed by a lot more people.
